5 Books I Have Loved This Year But Haven’t Reviewed (Until Now!)

Posted October 14, 2018 by Melissa in Book Reviews / 6 Comments

Hi everyone! Life and work has been taking over my blogging time *weeps* so I am super guilty of not reviewing many books lately. HOWEVER, today I will at least share some mini reviews /thoughts of books I have loved this past year and that I certainly recommend for you to pick up!(Click the Goodreads links to learn more about them. ♥)

Toil & Trouble

Toil & Trouble: 15 Tales of Women & Witchcraft by Tess Sharpe, Jessica Spotswood
Published by Harlequin Teen ISBN: 1335016279
on August 28, 2018
Goodreads

Rating: four-stars

This is a great anthology full of witchy goodness! I liked some stories better than others, but overall, the authors did a great job by mixing witchcraft, magic and a little bit of mayhem in every one of them. My favorite stories were: Death in the Sawtooth by Lindsay Smith, The Moonapple Menagerie by Shveta Thakrar, The Heart in Her Hands by Tess Sharpe, Beware of Girls with Crooked Mouths by Jessica Spotswood, and Why They Watch Us Burn by Elizabeth May. And it’s a perfect read for this time of year! ♥

Fierce Fairytales

Fierce Fairytales: Poems and Stories to Stir Your Soul by Nikita Gill
Published by Hachette Books on September 11, 2018
Goodreads

Rating: five-stars

Okaaaay, I technically haven’t finished this book yet but omg, I already know it’s a five star read. I read a poem every day and I am always left mesmerized with Nikita Gill’s magical and empowering words! Fierce Fairytales is a collection of short stories and poems featuring old-time favorite fairytales with a twist. Each short story or retelling gives us an unexpected view of some characters and it totally makes you think differently about them. But gosh, HER WORDS. You need to read this book! ♥

I LOVED The Bridge Kingdom! This audiobook comes out next week in fact, and I cannot wait for it to download to my device. I had the pleasure of reading an early version and you will LOVE this epic YA/NA Fantasy, it has one of my favorite kick-ass heroines of all time. AND THE ROMANCE *swoons*. I hope to review this one in more detail soon! ♥

Sword Princess Amaltea, Vol. 1

Sword Princess Amaltea, Vol. 1 by Natalia Batista

Rating: five-stars

Omg this manga had me laughing so hard. This is actually my first manga and I *loved* it. The characters’ personalities reminded me of Ouran Highschool Host Club and well, that thrilled me to no end. The world in Sword Princess Amaltea has fantasy tropes flipped. Women rule, and princesses must save “lads in distress”. It brought on a lot of female power into play and I’m super interested to keep on reading the next volumes!

All of This is True

All of This Is True by Lygia Day Peñaflor

Rating: four-stars

This book turned out to be such a different kind of read to what I was expecting but I really liked it. It’s told in different points of view and in different forms like interviews, journal entries, emails, and excerpts of A BOOK WITHIN THE BOOK (which was honestly my favorite part and I wished that book had been the book I had read! xD). BUT this book is definitely cool and worth checking out!

Thanks for reading!!! 😀
