I received this book for free from MTMC Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The elementals have decided they're gods, and humans are nothing but fuel for their fire.
A starving trapper.
Merciless drought withers Kira's ranch, leaving her family hungry--and desperate enough to cross the border into the forbidden forest to trap wild game.
But the forest is infested with tree-scorpions and giant cats that wield elemental invisibility, and they're hungry, too. When Kira mistakes one elemental creature for another, she ends up with the last thing she wants in her trap: an enemy soldier.
An invisible spy.
Ryon can't afford to be a prisoner of war. If the Malaano Empire extracts his secrets, the rumors of war will be confirmed--and the tribes stand little chance against the Empire unless they can put aside generations of bad blood for the sake of a Tribal Alliance.
When Ryon's escape leaves Kira injured and her livelihood in flames, Ryon must choose between aiding her... or returning to his chieftess with vital information. But can he survive the trek when an elemental pursues him for his rejected heritage?
A sacrificial princess.
Imperial Princess Vylia is given a powerful ancient stone as her wavesinger trials approach. But is the stone's whispering voice from the water goddess, or a masquerading elemental the creator god imprisoned millennia ago?
When Vylia's diplomatic mission to the tribal lands erupts in fiery revenge, she, Kira, and Ryon must work together to survive--or become pawns in the battle of the gods.

…Emberhawk Pita Bread…

My sister and I are big fans of books that mention food. We LOVE it. Food is a small (but important) window to catch a glimpse of the culture inside books and you’d be surprised at how many books don’t?! It’s kinda hard to believe that characters don’t eat or drink, but happy to report that Emberhawk did not disappoint in this department. From jams, herbal teas, breads, and other delicious treats, I was a happy (foodie) reader.

After Ryon and Kira get rescued by Emberhawks from a D’hakka (a magical creature) and taken into their camp/settlement, there comes a scene in which Kira gets introduced to the wonders of Pita Bread! In turn, this made me crave Pita Bread and after commenting it to my sister, she decided we could bake some & share a quick recipe for today’s creative post. πŸ˜€

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp of quick dry active yeast
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • 1 cup of all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil

Directions:

  • In a bowl, place the yeast, sugar and 1/4 of a cup of water and stir. Cover the bowl and let it sit for about five minutes.
  • In another bowl, place the flour and salt and mix together. Add the rest of the warm water and stir.
Grab the yeast mixture and fold it into the flour mixture to start forming the dough.
  • Knead by hand for about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a bowl coated with olive oil and let it rest for about an hour in a warm place. ( I preheat the oven at 360F for 5 minutes, I turn it off and then I place the dough inside. It works well for me :))
  • Once the hour is up, divide the dough into four parts and roll into 4 equal balls. Then flatten into disks and let them rest for 1/2 an hour in the baking pan (lined with baking parchment paper).
  • Preheat the oven at 450F for 10 minutes. Before baking the pita bread coat the dough with olive oil (optional) and bake for 5 minutes until golden brown and risen into a pocket.
  • Enjoy!

Now I can imagine pairing it with Kira’s jam from her ranch back home and it would be the perfect match (I like all things sweet haha). β™₯
