A fresh and addictive fantasy-romance set in modern-day Seoul.
Eighteen-year-old Gu Miyoung has a secret--she's a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must devour the energy of men in order to survive. Because so few believe in the old tales anymore, and with so many evil men no one will miss, the modern city of Seoul is the perfect place to hide and hunt.
But after feeding one full moon, Miyoung crosses paths with Jihoon, a human boy, being attacked by a goblin deep in the forest. Against her better judgment, she violates the rules of survival to rescue the boy, losing her fox bead--her gumiho soul--in the process.
Jihoon knows Miyoung is more than just a beautiful girl--he saw her nine tails the night she saved his life. His grandmother used to tell him stories of the gumiho, of their power and the danger they pose to humans. He's drawn to her anyway.
With murderous forces lurking in the background, Miyoung and Jihoon develop a tenuous friendship that blossoms into something more. But when a young shaman tries to reunite Miyoung with her bead, the consequences are disastrous . . . forcing Miyoung to choose between her immortal life and Jihoon's.

…The Reader’s Review…

This was such a fun ride! Gumiho: Wicked Fox is the book my heart absolutely needed! I am such a big fan of Kdramas but omg this book was a literary journey straight into a world I can only dream about visiting one day.

In this book we visit the beautiful city of Seoul, South Korea and we follow the story of Gu Miyoung, a half-human and half-Gumiho who feeds on the energy of evil men in order to keep her immortality. But as she stumbles one day upon a Goblin preying on a human, she decides to interfere and ends up revealing herself to Jihoon, and losing her fox bead that holds her soul.

I have to point out that Gumiho: Wicked Fox is told in both Gu Miyoung’s and Jihoon’s POV, and I loved how the story unfolded from each of their perspectives. I personally adored Gu Miyoung’s POV and enjoyed it a bit more since her world is full of mythology and connected to such interesting characters (like her friend Nara who can see ghosts!), but Jihoon provided also an entertaining perspective, particularly at understanding all the the myths and legends that he grew up hearing about from his Halmeoni.

Andd aaaahh the romance! It made my heart so happy! I just adored  Gu Miyoung and Jihoon together and I cannot wait to see them again. Their cuteness totally rivals so many of my favorite kdrama romances! ♥

Okay, I am on the verge of only fangirling so will wrap it up quickly because I don’t really want to give anything away. But I will say this: Gumiho: Wicked Fox is perfect for everyone who loves modern-day settings with magic/mythology intertwined, cute romances, fun/witty characters, adorable Halmeonis ♥, and also the type of books that have you turning pages non-stop! Gumiho turned out to be a surprising quick read despite its length, but it totally means that it was just too good to put down.

Favorite Kdramas to Watch After Reading Gumiho

Reading Gumiho reminded me of so many favorite kdramas because it has everything: romance, awesome friendships, epic characters, beautiful settings in the Seoul, South Korea, and so on! So of course, I have to share with you some of the ones I highly recommend for you to watch if you fell a bit of withdrawal (because of course you do!)

A Korean Odyssey:

This is one of our recent favorite Kdramas because ugh, the ROMANCE! But also because the main character can see ghosts (a bit like Nara from Gumiho!) and there are demons trying to be good and adsldjsldjs. It’s so epic and hilarious!!!

Gu Family Book

This is one of the first kdramas we ever watched but it still has a special place in our heart. Not only because it has a killer ending (I still weep over it) but it’s because it also follows the story of a half-gumiho!!! It’s really good, and also has lots of action/comedy. ♥

Hwarang

Okay, this one doesn’t have any mythology (that I remember) but it’s super hilarious and deserves to be watched. V from BTS is also in it so that’s a huge plus. He is so cute in this one! And Park Seo Joon!!! ♥

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon is one of my favorites ever!!!! Do Bong Soon is incredibly strong so this show perfectly captures the dynamics between a strong girl MC and a normal human, just like with Gu Miyoung and Jihoon. Also, Min-min is so cute! ♥

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

Okay, we have yet to watch this one but we are actually starting it tonight! It’s about a Gumiho too! And tbh, it sounds really fun. ♥
