Today is day THREE of the Top Ten of 2016 week event hosted by Rachel of Fiktshun, Jaime of Two Chicks on Books, Nancy of Tales of a Ravenous Reader, and Bridget of Dark Faerie Tales. This week is all about sharing our favorite reads of 2016 and the ones we’re looking forward in 2017!
BEST CONTEMPORARIES OF 2016
I decided to go for Contemporaries in today’s Top 10 post because after going over all the books I read this year, I noticed that a large amount were Contemporaries! Contemporary is my second favorite genre–right after Fantasy– and the reason why I love it so much is that Contemporary reads deal with a lot of issues and other kind of events that happen in real life. I’m such a fan of fluffy contemporaries, but I’m also starting to enjoy the kind of tough reads that make you stop for more than a second and THINK. Realistic contemporaries that deal with tough subjects always make my heart grow heavy, but I’m getting better at coping with them and I’m super glad that I’m giving them a chance.
So here’s a list of some fluffy AND tough contemporary novels that made me swoon, laugh, cry, and basically feel all the feels in 2016:
1. Liars and Losers Like Us by Ami Allen-Vath
I always knew that if I ever wrote a best contemporaries of 2016 list, that this book by Ami Allen-Vath would top the list. LALLU is such an amazing read, with swoons, humor & heart-wrenching pain. I loved it so much and I highly recommend it to everyone!
2. The Distance from A to Z by Natalie Blitt
I’m always on the lookout for a book to give me similar feels as Stephanie Perkins’ Anna and the French Kiss series, and this one came quite close to it. I absolutely loved the characters and the very swoony moments.
3. The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love by Sarvenaz Tash
THIS BOOK ♥♥♥♥ Any fan of all things geeky is sure to enjoy this book, specially if you have been or want to go to NYC’s Comic Con. Plus Graham is my hero and I want one like him in my life!!
4. Dead Girls Society by Michelle Krys
Dangerous games + an MC with health problems but still manages to kick-butt? HECK YES! This book was such a thrill to read. ♥
5. Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
This book spoke to my soul ♥ Now I understand why Jennifer Niven writes gold. HUTU has two great POVs and encourages to accept yourself just the way you are. ♥
6. Adorkable by Cookie O’Gorman
Adorkable is the right word for this book! So dorky, so adorable. If you love pretend dating books where they end up falling for each other, then this is the book to check out!
7. Teach Me To Forget by Erica M. Chapman
Teach Me to Forget was a harsh read for me, but I loved its brutal honesty because it helped me understand more about suicide. It opened my eyes and made me feel ashamed of how we are so quick to judge before knowing the full story. I hope this book helps others as well.
8. Walk The Edge by Katie McGarry
Ack! I JUST LOVED RAZOR SO MUCH. I’ve been reading the Thunder Road series back to back and so far, Walk the Edge is my favorite (though I’m currently reading Long Way Home and it might change). 😉
9. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
Such a fun summer read with lots of dogs and a swoon-worthy, nerdy WRITER to all head over heels for. ♥
10. This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp
This was my first read of the year, and while it’s not the happiest of the bunch, it was a read that made me think a lot about how unsafe we all are in public places without gun control.
……..
And that’s it for my top ten. What were your favorite covers of 2016? 🙂
Love some of these books! and the rest are on my TBR
So glad to hear that! These are all great reads. ♥
I haven't read most of these, yet. BUT This is where it ends won't make it on my TBR, I don't much care for that type of story.
Dead Girls Society has been on my TBR since I heard about it but I haven't heard of Liars and Losers like Us. I just added it, sounds right up my alley.
