Today is day one of the Top Ten of 2016 week event hosted by Rachel of Fiktshun, Jaime of Two Chicks on Books, Nancy of Tales of a Ravenous Reader, and Bridget of Dark Faerie Tales. This week is all about sharing our favorite reads of 2016 and the ones we’re looking forward in 2017!
BEST BOOKS I’VE READ IN 2016
The hardest prompt of the bunch! Today I’m sharing the books I think deserve to be at the top of all favorite lists. These were the books that broke me, wowed me, and made me feel all the feels. The very best from all! It was tough to narrow it down, but ultimately, I decided on the top ten best book I’ve read in 2016 and here they are:
1. Warrior Witch by Danielle L. Jensen
I technically read this book for the first time at the end of 2015 but I’ve been rereading it throughout this year and I cannot not mention it at the top of my list. Because it gave me all the feels and it’s honestly the best series ender I have ever read. ♥
2. Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Now Stalking Jack the Ripper is my favorite read of this year (that I actually read in this year for the first time). It’s so so amazing and I never expected to love it so much. It didn’t seem to be my type of read but this take on the infamous Jack the Ripper seriously made me fall in love and I cannot wait to read the sequel!
3. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
RHYSAND!!!!!!!!! Need I say more? 😉
4. Dead Girls Society by Michelle Krys
Gosh, this book of dares was such a thrilling read. If you love contemporaries with a mix of mystery and dangerous games, then you must pick this up pronto!
5. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
This backlist book was hands down one of the most surprising reads of this year. I had heard so much about this series but since it’s an old YA book, I didn’t believe it could be up to par with the newer YA. I WAS SO WRONG. It’s so incredibly good and I highly recommend you pick it up if you haven’t already.
6. Every Hidden Thing by Kenneth Oppel
Indiana Jones meets Romeo & Juliet? HECK YEAH. (I always say that about this book lol). I absolutely loved this historical YA about dinosaur fossils and forbidden romance. ♥
7. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
*Chants* KAZ. KAZ. KAZ. KAZ. I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago to read Six of Crows and it was the best thing I could have done. This book was so so cool and I cannot wait to move on to Crooked Kingdom.
8. The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love by Sarvenaz Tash
ALL THE GEEKY FEELS! I loved attending NY Comic Con through the eyes of Graham, our MALE main character, and attempt to make his girl best friend to fall in love with him. It was so adorable!
9. Liars and Losers Like Us by Ami Allen-Vath
This book was one of the first books I read in 2016 and it left quite an impression on me. I cannot get it out of my mind and I’m always trying to recommend it to my friends. So here’s another attempt: READ IT! You won’t regret it. ♥
10. Teach Me to Forget by Erica M. Chapman
This book was such a tough read yet so rewarding. If you’re looking for a book about mental illness or suicide, then check this one out. It does have trigger warnings so be careful.
……..
And that’s it for my top ten. What were your favorite reads of 2016? 🙂
I read Graceling years ago and I couldn't believe that it wasn't more popular! It's so good!! The other books in the series are great as well, though they each follow different characters within the same fantasy world.
I think with all the flood of new books, we often overlook these gems that get pushed to the back. I am excited to read Fire and Bitterblue! Hoping to love them as well. ♥
ACOMAF is soooo good I literally can't handle that book! XD
RIGHT?!?!?!? I need ACOWAR NOW!
I LOVE Stalking Jack the Ripper too! I've meant to read Graceling for so very long. I need to rectify that. Great list!
Oh I hope you can read Graceling soon, I promise that it won't disappoint! ♥
I LOVED ACOMAF, it's one of my favorites of the year too. And I really want to read Six of Crows and Graceling. Great list! 🙂
YAY! ACOMAF seriously kicked some butt this year. Six of Crows and Graceling are superb and cannot recommend them enough 😀
ACOMAF Seems to be on everyone's list I really need to read ACOTAR ASAP. Dead Girls Society is one am really interested in.
Megan @ reading away the days
Great choices. I need to read quite a few of these. But this lets me know they're enjoyable.
2016 was a slow reading year for me, so many more books to read. I can't wait to read ACOMAF, AND Six of Crows!
