A kingdom in turmoil or the love of her life. Which one will she save?
Elementalist Rielle hasn't heard from her best friend in far too long. Yet no one at the Tower of Magic seems to care about Olivia’s silence, or the curtain of secrecy surrounding the distant capital. Before Rielle can investigate, she's assigned a strange new mission: escort a paladin named Jon across the kingdom.
When whispers reveal mercenaries have killed the king, taken the capital, and that no one is coming to help, Rielle can’t leave Olivia in peril. But as infamous mages and deadly assassins hunt Jon, she can’t leave him unprotected either—especially as she finds herself falling for his strength, his passion, and his uncompromising goodness. Her past returns to haunt her, a werewolf stalks their steps, and an ancient evil is gathering, yet the restraints forbidding their love strain and snap one by one.
Saving Olivia and the kingdom means defying orders and sacrificing her every ambition, and could mean losing the man who's become so much more to her than a mission. Which will she choose: her best friend and the kingdom, or the love of her life?
Dive into a medieval world sensual and dark, full of magic and greed, love and blades, where factions vie for influence and there are no easy choices.

Why you need to read Blade & Rose
“Jon, I bring hurt to all who love me.” …
“Then give me memories to live in when the hurt comes.”
Blade & Rose has a lot of the bookish tropes I love reading about, it was such a joy starting this series! Rielle’s and Jon’s enemies-to-lovers/forbidden romance is now one of my recent favorites! ♥️Rielle is so cheeky and outgoing and Jon is modest and serious and when they’re forced into a mission together they really become the perfect couple. In this first installment of the Blade and Rose series you will find adventure, traveling, curses, there-is-only-one-bed trope, magic, friendship, romance, true love, a werewolf fiancé, a doomed kingdom and a fantastical quest that has the potential to have dire consequences. 👑✨ Also this book is incredibly gorgeous, I am in LOVE with it!!
Rielle and Jon are definitely my favorite characters in Blade & Rose, their bantering at the beginning of this story had me laughing constantly. I really love them together, from the very first pages of the book, I knew I was going to enjoy reading this amazing story! However, these two characters also have a sad history, from dealing the loss of their dear family to handling addictions, their slow process of healing was quite admirable. 🥺💔 We also get to meet other fun characters like Leigh (Rielle’s mentor)! At first, I didn’t know what to think of him, but as we get to hang around him more, I ended up really liking that rascal. 😂
As we navigate through the world of Blade & Rose, we start learning the magic systems and different powers that I found very interesting. We fall in love with the characters and appreciate the everyday life. However, as the story progresses it gets darker, a civil war becomes more apparent, Rielle discovers her best friend is caught in the middle of it and danger is everywhere. And to top it all, Rielle still needs to deal with an arranged marriage with her werewolf fiancé that threatens to ruin her. Aah, she really cannot catch a break! 😩
All in all, a fantastic read!! I was so excited to start reading it and I’m happy to report that I absolutely loved it!! So if anyone is looking for a fantasy romance with an adventurous twist, you must check this one out!! 🙌📚👑

Out-of-context Character Interview with Rielle and Jon from Blade & Rose!
Hi Rielle and Jon! We’re thrilled to have you on The Reader and the Chef, we loved meeting you in Blade & Rose. ♥️👑 Tell us, what were your thoughts when you met each other?
Rielle:He was a tower of a man, about six-and-a-half feet tall, and the arcanir plate armor made him massive… It was him. The Paladin from five years ago… Healed him.
Jon: She’d captured him, true enough, but only done her duty; otherwise she’d been professional and hospitable… and he’d been rude and judgemental… The mage was beautiful but, to him, an unwanted distraction.
We know both of you had a bit of a rough start. But we’re curious, what is the difference between witches and mages? 🧐
Jon: “…I did learn the difference. Mages learn magic at the Divinity’s Towers, while hedge witches are sole practitioners outside of the Divinity’s influence…”
Rielle: She narrowed her eyes. Even if all practitioners of magic were once called witches, before the civilization, order, and wisdom of the Divinity had sophisticated them, as a mage it still rankled to be called such, and few dared.
Aah, we totally understand Rielle. 🥺 We are fans of your work and we know it took you lots of effort to get here. Besides studying and working, what are your favorite past times?
Rielle: She’d picked violet rocky thyme there, and intense-blue gentian flowers, rosy pink clusters of catchfly, mauve trumpets of pimpernel willowherb, and sweet-smelling mead wort. Plants she’d carefully rooted in water and then potted to keep her company in the long cold of winter.
That is amazing, gardening is so relaxing and fulfilling! How about you Jon?😍
Jon: The symbol of his vows, his commitment to the life of a Sodalis and the Order of Terra, it always offered him comfort.
How honorable of you! Last question, what were your thoughts when you were assigned a mission together? 🙌
Rielle: An escort. Fantastic. He could obviously take care of himself and didn’t need her protection; she could be helping those who did. Wrangling a stubborn paladin all the way to Monas Amar would be a waste of her skills and a headache.
Jon: “I don’t need an escort —or a guard,” Jon insisted. “If Derric wants me me to go to Monas Amar, I’ll go. On my own. I need no help from mages.”
But I bet you are grateful now, right Jon? 😂 Thank you so much for chatting with us, we had an excellent time. Cannot wait for everyone to meet you both in Blade & Rose!! ✨
