Hi everyone! Welcome to another edition of The Week’s Entrée!

IT’S AUGUST!!!!!!!!
A.K.A. My birthday month! I don’t usually do much for my birthday, but it’s still cause for a small celebration, don’t you think? I’ll be turning 23 17. Yeah, still young. 😉
In other awesome news, my sister & I are once again hosting a giveaway on Instagram (@thereaderandthechef)! Go check it out since we are giving one follower the choice to win any book from our July Physical Book Haul. We only bought 3 books, but they are awesome!
ALSO, yesterday we celebrated Harry Potter’s and J.K. Rowling’s birthdays by making Hagrid’s cake for Harry!  You like?
Happy start of the month, y’all!

Latest book reviews in other sites:

I reviewed Rose & Thorn by Sarah Prineas on YA Books Central

This is the sequel to Ash & Bramble (a retelling of Cinderella!) and although I did not read it before Rose & Thorn, I had no trouble at all to enjoy it since it can be read as a standalone (loved that!). This book is full of unusual spins for a retelling, that’s why it makes it a unique read. Definitely recommend!

Here’s the book’s summary:
This beauty isn’t sleeping! Sarah Prineas’s darkly imaginative retelling breaks down the classic story of Sleeping Beauty in a big, bold way. Brimming with action and romance, beautiful Rose must escape the curse that will force the kingdom to fall into a century-long slumber and fights for the freedom to find her own happily ever after.

After the spell protecting her is destroyed, Rose seeks safety in the world outside the valley she had called home. She’s been kept hidden all her life to delay the three curses she was born with, curses that will have drastic consequences if they take effect. Accompanied by the handsome and mysterious Griff and Quirk, his witty and warmhearted partner, Rose tries to escape from the ties that bind her to this forced fairy tale. But will the path they take lead them to freedom, or will it bring them straight into the prescribed story they are trying to avoid?

Set in the world of Prineas’s Ash & Bramble fifty years later, Rose & Thorn is a powerful retelling of Sleeping Beauty. If you like your fairy tales dark, your heroines daring, and your suitors dashing, this is the book for you.

From authors, publishers, Netgalley, Edelweiss, etc.

Thanks to Penguin Books UK for granting me access to Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven! I’ve heard so much about this author so I’m really excited to read her upcoming book. I also downloaded The French Impressionist from Netgalley since it looks like a bright read. 🙂
{Purchased}
I purchased a kindle copy of The Archived by V.E. Schwab since it was on sale for $1.99 (I think). Hope to read this one soon!

To Read This Week:

I will start with my first ARC for ARC August! Thinking The French Impressionist because I so love the cover. Might even buy it in physical if I like it enough! 😀

  1. So glad to see you recommend Rose & Thorn AND that you don't have to read Ash & Bramble first! I've been really wanting to read it, but haven't read the previous so I was a bit unsure. Also excited to see what you think of The Archived! I just picked it up while on sale also and have been looking forward to checking it out! 🙂

    • I was hesitant to read it before Ash & Bramble (and I didn't know it was a sequel at the time when I requested it) but it was easy to follow the storyline since it takes place 50 years later. That helped a lot. 🙂
