Book Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Liza Johnson takes fangirl to a whole new level of crazy when she decides to take dating advice from her literary hero: Jane Austen.

With the help of her best friends, Liza sheds her ancient-speak and complete Austen wardrobe for something a bit more modern in an attempt at finding her very own Mr. Darcy.

Enter Will, the new kid and Liza’s Darcy incarnate. Add her BFF’s ex to mix and the sexy Brit who kisses with an accent, and Liza is in trouble.

So, what’s a girl to do? Without her mom to go to relationship advice, Liza turns to the only person she can truly trust with matters of the heart via her mother’s copy of COMPLETED WORKS OF JANE AUSTEN.

It’s too bad Austen’s heroines have never played Spin the Bottle or Seven Minutes in Heaven. Liza’s determined to find her true Austen-esque happy ending, but if she can’t trust herself instead of books, she just might end up in her own tragic love story

  *The Reader’s Review*

     My rating: 4/5 stars
I don’t know about you, but I’m always happy to dive into stories based on Jane Austen’s novels. What can I say? Her love stories are classically stunning and the love interests are so interesting.*cough Mr. Darcy cough* So when I had the chance to read Erin Butler’s YA inspired book, I crossed my fingers and hoped to be swooned by her story. And I was!
I simply adored the cuteness of this book! It was such a fun, light read that made me smile constantly. The main character, Eliza, was crazy in love with everything that had to do with Jane Austen, making her an awesome Jane quoter (is that a word?). She’s a nice girl, with troubles and faults, and in her quest to find a Jane approved love, she immerses herself in her own sort of version of Pride and Prejudice, and more.
The love interests were very swoon worthy and I was so rooting for Will (high school edition of Mr. Darcy). He was perfect and adorable! Okay, not that perfect, but I developed a huge crush on him so his perfect in my eyes. However, there’s also this guy who was super sweet too and, despite not being as perfect as my Will, he was a worthy candidate as well.
I have to say I was a bit bummed on how things end up with Liza. Nothing bad happens really and I must admit it’s quite clever and unexpected, but I fear that wasn’t what I wanted. Still, I liked how Liza came to know herself and did what she think was best for her and everyone.
Overall, if you’re looking for a sweet, fast-paced read inspired by the great Jane Austen, then this one is undoubtedly one you should try soon. 😉
