I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

At seventeen, all Prince Nuelle had ever known was safety and peace while living in the Supreme Palace of Zephoris.
But one night, his older brother, Tane, defies their father by traveling to a cursed land. Now Nuelle holds the signet-ring and carries more responsibility than even Tane bore. Thrust from the palace and sent to a knight-building academy, Nuelle must discover his purpose for the entire kingdom’s sake.
From his place of banishment, Prince Antikai has been exacting revenge through fear and rebellions. Nuelle has the potential to defeat him, but he needs the help of a powerful book called the Acumen and six gifted youths.
Summoned by Antikai, shape-shifting beasts and other enemies hunt Nuelle and the Acumen. If either is destroyed, the faithful citizens in Zephoris will perish, and darkness will rule forever.

three-half-stars

Yes!!! I have finished Prodigy Prince and I have to be honest, it was hard for me to get through, but once I finished the first chapters, I ended up loving it! It was a fun book and exactly what I needed to read right at the moment. I enjoyed reading about Prince Nuelle and his Six Sentinels (they are humans with special gifts called prodigies that have sworn to protect the Prince) and all their adventures.

It is a fast-paced story, action packed from the beginning and even though they were all involved in a dangerous quest to defeat Antikai and destroy his land , it still manages to have bits of humor that brightened up the story. There were so many great characters, but my favorite has to be Ave. He is the best friend of Prince Nuelle since childhood and one of his Six Sentinels. Ave is sweet, funny, smart, sassy and an amazing cook/baker with a witty comment at any occasion. This is my favorite line of his in this story where Prince Nuelle and his Six Sentinels barely arrived at the castle and Ave was “welcomed” by old Lady Flemm (a castle employee):

Old Lady Flemm’s roller head craned in Ave’s direction and she pointed the toothbrush at him. “Am I having a nightmare?”
He crossed his arms. “Or maybe you died and didn’t make it to paradise.”

Aah, how I adore Ave! The other sentinels are amazing characters as well. Well into the book, they finally have some spare time where they all sit down and talk about themselves and learn how they got each of their gifts. I loved that part of the story and that’s where I could really see the chemistry between the characters. Also, there were so many interesting creatures inside the book and I thought it was amazing that there was a guide included right at the end.

However, there were some things that prevented me from giving Prodigy Prince full stars. Despite having a fast-paced beginning, I think that it needed more world building for me to get the grasp of things and to be more emotionally invested from the start. So many characters were introduced that it was difficult for me to keep up and sometimes I had to go back and reread to remember. Other than that, I absolutely loved the story and I am so happy that I read it through the end.

Final Thoughts:

Prodigy Prince was a great story for me. It reminded me of The Lord of the Rings, how Frodo suddenly becomes the chosen one and out of the blue he gets trustworthy companions on a quest to destroy a great evil. Of course, Prodigy Prince is not at all the same, but I feel like the plot has some similarities. All in all, it was an interesting story and I had fun joining Prince Nuelle and his Six Sentinels on their adventure!

Happy reading!
