Arya Winters is your typical cozy heroine. She lives in a cottage in a small English village, and bakes for a living--well, she specializes in macabre dessrts. She has the standard nosy neighbors, who she avoids ruthlessly due to her social anxiety. And, oh, she also has a mild case of Tourette's.

When her neighbor Tobias Yards turns up dead, no one seems to connect it to Arya's Auntie Meera's recent death, so takes matters into her own hands. All she has to do to uncover the truth is to get over her aversion to Other People. Besides that, it's just a matter of getting beyond some yellow tape, dodging her former BFF Tallulah from secondary school, and getting into her new neighbor, writer Branwell Beam's, pants--he seems strangely reluctant.

What Arya doesn't realize is that the murderer is dangerous, preying on lonely people who've experienced trauma, and that she might have to do all she can not to become the next victim.

Why you need to read Arya Winters and the Tiramisu of Death

Arya Winters and the Tiramisu of Death reminded me why I love reading cozy mysteries. ♥️✨ It was funny and entertaining with an eerie twist that it was difficult to put down. Our MC, Arya is unapologetically honest, and I loved that about her! 😍 After loosing her aunt, the only person she loved, she decides to go live in her house where she can come to terms with her passing and live a peaceful life. However Trucklewood village has other plans for her as she finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery. With a fantastic cast of characters, secrets and lots of gothic baking (including a deathly Tiramisu), this is a book you do not want to miss. ✨

There are a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, but we also learn Arya’s past and it was not pretty. 😩 She was someone who suffered through bullying and including rejection due to her parents and it was not until her Auntie Meera took her in when she was a child that she started to feel loved. 💔 Arya worked so hard to overcome her traumas, her fierceness and wit is what I admire the most of her.

I just really enjoyed this book, the storytelling and plot were incredibly engaging. Also this book was so atmospheric, Trucklewood was both charming and creepy with lots of secrets among the residents. I will be definitely looking more of Amita Murray’s work, 10/10 recommend! ✨📚

Tiramisu Recipe based on Arya Winters and the Tiramisu of Death!

The moment I started reading Arya Winters and the Tiramisu of Death, I knew I was going to prepare a tiramisu as part of our creative spotlight in this tour! We are fans of this dessert, so it was a perfect excuse to prepare one. 😂❤️Arya is so proud of her recipe, I hope she approves of mine (althouh I swear this one is not poisoned). 🙂 So, without any farther ado, here it is!

INGREDIENTS:

For the Custard:
1/3 cup whole milk
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
250 grs mascarpone cheese

For the Ladyfinger Coffee Mixture:
18 ladyfingers
1/2 cup hot water
2 tablespoons rum
2 tablespoons instant coffee
2 tablespoons sugar

For the Whipped Cream:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder, for dusting

DIRECTIONS:

First, to prepare the custard, place a pot over medium-high heat on the stove and add the milk. Wait for the milk to heat up, add your egg yolks and sugar. Whisk the mixture constantly until all of the ingredients are combined and it starts to thicken up into a pudding-like consistency. Take it off the heat and transfer the mixture to a bowl and let it chill in the fridge.

To make the whipped cream, add the whipping cream to a bowl along with the vanilla and sugar. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat the ingredients on medium until they’re combined. Then, turn the speed up to high and beat until you have stiff peaks of whipped cream. Set aside.

Prepare the coffee mixture by combining the hot water, rum, and instant coffee. To start assembling the tiramisu, deep each ladyfinger in the coffee mixture and line them in your prefer dish.

Grab your custard mixture from the fridge and combine it with the mascarpone cheese. Once the custard has fully come together, take half of it and smooth it out across the top of your ladyfingers.

Take half of your whipped cream and smooth it out on top of the custard. Repeat the process: add another layer of ladyfingers and coffee mixture, then custard, and finally whipped cream.

Once your tiramisu is assembled, dust cocoa powder generously across the top. Allow it to chill at least 4 hours. Enjoy!

About Amita Murray

Amita is a writer, based in London. Her first novel The Trouble with Rose came out with Harper Collins in 2019, with the German edition coming out with Random House Blanvalet in 2021.

Having lived in and around Delhi, London and California, Amita likes to write funny things about cultural encounters and relationships. She thinks of herself as a bit of a nomad, though a previous tutor also aptly suggested the label “cultural abyss.” (Use in a sentence: Amita, you’re a cultural abyss.)

In 2016, she was shocked when her short story collection won the SI Leeds Literary Prize at a magical award ceremony at the Ilkley Literature Festival. Actually, it was so magical, she’ll be talking about this prize for years, just wait and see. (And don’t say you weren’t warned.) The collection was partly written under a Leverhulme Writer-in-Residence grant at University College London in 2015, and stories appear in Wasafiri, SAND Berlin, the Berkeley Fiction Review and others.

She’s held writerly residencies with Leverhulme/University College London and Plymouth University/Literature Works. She has taught advanced fiction at the University of East Anglia and CityLit London.
