Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself.

*The Reader’s Review*
My rating: 4/5 stars

I finally, FINALLY, read The Star-Touched Queen I’ve been meaning to read this gorgeous book ever since it was announced but I somehow kept on pushing it down my TBR list. But now with the companion novel being released next week, A Crown of Wishes, I couldn’t keep on putting it off, and whoa, color me impressed!
What I liked:
This book is hands-down a beautiful treat. The writing is incredibly gorgeous and vivid. It’s hard not to get lost inside Roshani Chokshi’s ability to weave a tale right from the stars, but honestly, who would want to resist? I could live inside her prose endlessly!
The Star-Touched Queen does not have a wide cast of characters, but it makes up with strong (but flawed) personalities. I love how they are far from perfect yet seem to try to be better, to learn from their mistakes. This mostly from the main character, Maya, who not always makes the best of choices, but she  constantly strives to make up for all her errors. Really loved her character!
Oh, but one of my favorite aspects of this book was coming across with riddles! I LOVE riddles. I suck at answering them correctly, but I love finding them in books anyway. I tried to guess each one as I read them, but I do have to say that I’ve now found the reason why I’ won’t ever come close to being a “Star-Touched Queen” *sniff*. Good thing I wish to be more like Gauri. 😉
Gauri is Maya’s half-sister and the main character in the next companion novel. We meet her in this book when she’s around 8 years old, but we soon learn that time passes and she grows into a force to be reckoned with. I just know that she’ll be EPIC in A Crown of Wishes!
What left me wanting more:
I loved Maya and I liked Amar (her love interest), but sadly, I wasn’t that into their relationship. This might be just a personal reading preference, since this always seems to happen when I’m reading about a couple who already had some form of history. I don’t know, I struggle more falling in love when this is the case.
I was also expecting more from the grand finale. It had a nice build-up and I was expecting huge chaos, but it kind of flops right at the end. It was too smooth. Oh, but it did leave me intrigued about Gauri!
Final Verdict:
The Star-Touched Queen is a gorgeously written book full of magic, intrigue, and a tale as compelling as the starlit sky. Highly recommend!

  1. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this! I thought this was such a beautifully written book – although I agree about the romance – I didn't really connect with it. However I'm still excited to read A crown of Wishes – will definitely be picking that one up soon!
