The Week’s Entrée #111

Posted August 15, 2016 by Melissa in Uncategorized / 3 Comments

Hi everyone! Welcome to another edition of The Week’s Entrée!

Tomorrow is my birthday!!!!

To anyone who asks, I’m turning 23 SEVENTEEN. Yeah, that’s right. 😉 I really hope the chef bakes me a cool cake. I already told her (loosely) what I wanted, but in the end, it’s always a surprise and I love surprises 😀 I’ll show it to you here & on our bookstagram!

In other news, my LAST review on KateTilton.com went live last week (check just right below)! This site will no longer post reviews, instead it’ll focus more on author-focused posts and Gif Interviews. I will miss writing reviews for this site, but I am excited to contribute posts that will come from my experience as an international book blogger (plus other stuff). It’ll be a challenge & something that’s definitely out of my comfort zone, but I think it will help me grow even more as a blogger. Wish me luck!!

Latest book reviews in other sites:

I reviewed the audiobook of The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury on Kate Tilton, Connecting Authors & Readers

This audiobook turned out to be such a big disappointment! It’s just that this book is only meant to be read, not listened to. It’s slow, there’s a lot of info-dump, and there isn’t much world-building. Maybe the sequel will be better, but I definitely won’t be checking it out as an audiobook.

Here’s the book’s summary:
A startling, seductive, deliciously dark debut that will shatter your definition of YA fantasy. Sixteen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. But although she’s engaged to the prince, no one speaks to her. No one even looks at her. Because Twylla isn’t a member of the court. She’s the executioner. As the goddess-embodied, Twylla kills with a single touch. So each week, she’s taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love her. Who could care for a girl with murder in her veins? Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to her touch, avoids her.But then a new guard arrives, a boy whose playful smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he’s able to look past Twylla’s executioner robes and see the girl, not the goddess. Yet a treasonous romance is the least of Twylla’s problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies-a plan that requires an unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favor of a doomed love?

New books!

From authors, publishers, Netgalley, Edelweiss, etc.

Huge thanks to 4th Estate & HarperCollins for sending me a review copy of The Drowning of Arthur Braxton! This book is so pretty in person and I can’t wait to read it! Did you know it’s being turned into a movie? A popular Youtuber loved this book so much that he raised funds to make it! It will come out Spring 2017!  It’s pitched as a “modern YA contemporary with a touch of magic” and also as a quirky book. My fave things! ♥
{Purchased}
I purchased the kindle ebooks of The Young Elites & The Rose Society by Marie Lu since they were on sale yesterday. It’s abut time I read a Marie Lu novel don’t you think? Hope I love this series!

To Read This Week:

This’ll be my second read for #ARCAugust! I know I know, I am quite far behind, but I still have 15 more days to this challenge! I will make it!  I will also break into my copy of Arthur Braxton this week. 😀
…….
And that’s it for The Week’s Entrée! What are you all reading? 🙂

  1. Well happy early birthday! 😀 I hope it's absolutely wonderful and that you do, in fact, get an incredible cake. (Do you have a favorite flavor? I have an odd interest in finding out what people like, I promise I'm not overly creepy.)
I tried reading The Sin-Eater's Daughter recently, and I do agree that I think it's better read. It still wasn't exceptionally amazing, but I can see it not being as good on audio. I hope you enjoy Marie Lu, as well – I've yet to read any of her books, either!

    • Thank you so much, Jordan! ♥ I LOVE Carrot Cake, I think it might be my favorite, though I am also fond of chocolate cake and Tres Leches. 😀
I'm a bit sad that The Sin Eater's Daughter didn't turn out to be as cool as I thought it would be but, oh well.
