AAHHH THIS BOOK!!! THIS BLOODY FREAKIN-TASTIC BOOK!!! ❤ Everything you’ve heard about The Witch Hunter, about how amazing it is, how it’s the book you MUST READ this year, is all true. You HAVE to go buy this incredible book and read it ASAP because you’re going to LOVE IT.
Where to start?! The Witch Hunter is GREAT in every aspect. The storyline is intriguing, the characters are loveable and funnily sarcastic, the magic is almost palpable, and the never-ending action had me flipping the pages late into the night. It had me GLUED, you guys, and I just had to read it in one sitting (haven’t done this for AGES).
I was really surprised about Elizabeth’s character when I first started this book. She had a high reputation as a witch hunter and yet, she was struggling to do her deeds as she used to. I was wondering what was happening to her and why the author wasn’t showing her off as strong as she claimed to be, but when she soon reveals why, it made me go OH! I wasn’t expecting that. It’s an off-putting revelation and though disgusting, it made me appreciate the author and Elizabeth’s character more. Virginia made Elizabeth look vulnerable, so her rise from it would make her stronger. I loved that.
I loved the magic inside this book. It’s not really the showy kind of magic, but it’s there in both terrible and beautiful ways. Witchcraft and wizardry or any other type of magical practice is banned, so in the beginning it is made out to look like if it’s only dark magic. I could only picture in my mind ugly ghouls & ghosts rising out of invocations and curses being placed on people, but as we meet Nicholas Perevil, John, George and Fifer, magic becomes more practical and good. This was a tough transition for Elizabeth to accept since she was taught to hate it, but even she couldn’t deny that there was more to it than just darkness as she learns more about it.
The Witch Hunter is a gloomy read considering the dark atmosphere brought out by the witch hunters pursuing Elizabeth and Nicholas, but it was brightened by the lovely characters. I ADORED George and his charming sense of humour. I laughed so many times at his jokes and his simple way to be. He quickly formed a special bond with Elizabeth and I enjoyed their on-and-off banter throughout the book.
“You’re awfully short,” I say.
“Short? Not me! Maybe you’re the short one. Ever think of that?”
I consider it. “My God, you’re right. You must be very clever.”
Geroge cracks a laugh. “If only everyone was this easy to convince.”
As much as I adored George however, my favorite guy from this book is John. He’s such a smart, caring & absolutely lovable person. I loved him from the first moment he was mentioned in the book. He has the biggest and most tender heart of all. So damn perfect in fact that I want one just like him! Or him, I wouldn’t mind. The moments he has with Elizabeth were so cute and tender that I swear I felt my heart melt a bit. *happy sigh*
Oh, there’s just too much goodness inside this incredible book. I’ll stop right here and let you all discover its amazingness on your own. You must grab this book pronto though because it’s SO worth your time, trust me on this one. You will even be left wanting the sequel to be in your hands immediately. I know I want it. Nope, I NEED IT. We need it. EVERYONE needs it! *insert crazy eye twitch*
:)))
