She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? …or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

     My rating: 4/5 stars
Wow, A Shade of Vampire is a really awesome read! And the audiobook is uh-mazing. It’s so, so hard not to be enthralled by the voice of Zachary Webber. He knows what he’s doing. The way he speaks, the way he makes the characters come to life, everything. Heck, he’s the main reason why I wanted to listen to the audiobook in the first place! However, the other two narrators, Emma Galvin and Kate Rudd did a great job as well. It was such a joy to listen to their voices and they made it extremely easy to lose myself in the story.
A Shade of Vampire is the first book in a vampire series that has been a hit since it came out a few years ago. Before I listened to the audiobook, I checked a few reviews to see what I was getting myself into and I found hundreds upon hundreds raving how much they loved the book. And, they were so right, it’s really, really good. I loved the main characters, the plot and how the story flowed. I liked the dark setting and it’s many pecularities. I also enjoyed how, despite the short length of this book, it packs so much. There are so many things about this world that I’m anxious to discover, to learn more about this particular vampire world and their ways. The magic that surrounds the shade is intriguing and there’s definitely more to it than meets the eye. But the one thing I’m most curious about is why Derek Novak was asleep for 400 years, and why exactly he was needed back.
The romance that slowly blossomed between the two main characters, Sofia and Derek, was incredibly sweet and was another reason why I liked this book so much. It’s a barely there romance, mind you, but the thoughts from each character made the feels come in, hard. I can’t tell if they are perfect for each other because I don’t know the outcome yet, but I hope that this couple stay strong as one (and live happily ever after, forever). 😉
So if you’re up to read a paranormal romance that is dark, entertaining and one that has strong and interesting characters, then I highly recommend reading A Shade of Vampire. It’s not your typical vampire book I assure you. It has many new twists to the lore that are worth checking out, and no, it’s not like Twilight if that worries you about vampire books (I liked Twilight btw, no judging!). Hey, but if you want to please your ears instead of your eyes, don’t hesitate to get the audiobook. Every second is very much worth it too!
