     My rating: 3.5/5 stars
Supernatural abilities? Hell yes! I love reading these type of books, they are always so much fun and this book was no exception. I just love the idea of an Institute created to control the people contaminated and I liked the twisted fact that instead of being there to help them out, to be their safe haven from the society, it serves more as a prison and as a place to be feared of because the people running each and every one of these Institutes for the contaminated children will do just about anything to keep their power, not caring if it comes to killing and sacrificing their children.
The characters in this book are quite likeable and they have awesome (and some even weird) abilities. Donna, who is one of the main characters, has the ability to guess right; Dan, another main character, can force people to do his will with his mind, and Donna’s friend and roomie, Eva, has the power to reproduce and use her hormones to influence guy’s minds (weird, right?). Out of the three, I guess my favorite has to be Donna because she grows the most inside the story. She goes from a laid-back girl who refuses to read the rule book to a sharp-minded girl ready to save the day.
While the first part of the book is interesting and a good read, I loved best the second part of the book. It’s more action-packed and the characters started dropping bombs one after another. I liked how the story picked up and how the author easily presented pretty great plot twists. And, because I’m such a romance lover, I was thrilled how the feelings developed between Donna and Dan. It was an agonizing slow-burn, but well worth it!
I’m looking forward to read the next book. I’m curious to find out what is going to happen to Donna, Dan and Eva as they master their abilities, and better yet, what will happen to all the Institutes and the evil minds behind their walls. Hope they all go down!

Margaret E. Alexander grew up in Miami, FL. Ten years of frizz and hurricanes chased her away to sunny San Diego, CA. While in college, studying biomedical engineering didn’t stop her from pumping out novel drafts every year. She found her escape in storytelling and others like her who sometimes preferred the world of fiction to the real one. The Executioner at the Institute for Contaminated Children is her first YA novel with Crescent Moon Press. She loves blogging about thrillers with young protagonists and is putting her art minor to good use with a graphic novel project on the side. Her wandering focus is the fault of her cat.
