The Iron Traitor is the second book in the spinoff series The Iron Fey: Call Of The Forgotten, and it picks up right were The Lost Prince left off. Ethan and Kenzie are back in the human world after their adventurous (and dangerous) trip to the Nevernever. Kenzie is sick, Ethan turns into an overprotective boyfriend, and Kenzie’s father wants him out of his daughter’s life for good. But these small problems pale in comparison with the ever-growing threat the Forgotten fey represent, or the fact that Keirran (Ethan’s nephew) is missing and absolutely no one knows where he is. With news that Keirran is looking for a way to buy more time for his fading girlfriend, Ethan and Kenzie embark once again on a treacherous journey were the odds of making it out alive are close to non-existent, specially with a traitor in their midst.
First, let me tell you how much I LOVE Ethan Chase. He’s such a great character! I thought he was okay enough in the last book, but in this one he is so much nicer and not as brooding/bad tempered as he used to be. He still is an overprotective fool over Kenzie for most of the book, but I liked how he slowly started trusting and respecting Kenzie’s wishes to help and be treated like if she weren’t dying. And, he’s super loyal to Keirran and everyone he loves. It’s such a shame that Keirran BETRAYS HIM.
Ugh, I hated Keirran in this book. It’s no secret that he is the traitor (not spoiling it to you, I swear! The cover says it all) but I never thought I would come to dislike him so much. Ethan helps him in his quest to save Annwyl, he defies a queen, and he risks his and Kenzie’s life for him. So after everything that Ethan did, he stabs him in the back, the dunce! I understand Keirran’s need to save Annwyl, but he messes with the wrong crowd. Not cool, Keirran. However, I have the feeling that things with Keirran aren’t what it seems. I may eat my words in the next book because Julie does have a knack of twisting plots. But for now, hate hate hate.
And gosh, the things that Keirran and Ethan set into motion together are baffling. Hell will break loose in the next book that is for sure. I hope Ash, Meghan, Puck, and Grimalkin once again make a comeback because they are going to need all the help they can get. Razor too, I like that devilishly cute Gremlin. And most important of all, I hope everyone survives. I will be terribly annoyed if they don’t (More like DIE as well). Julie Kagawa left us with a terrible cliffhanger so I think we deserve only happy things from now on. Yes? Good.
Again, if you have yet to start this series, you can always start with The Lost Prince since it’s the first in the Call of the Forgotten, but I recommend starting with The Iron King, which is the very first book in The Iron Fey series (Meghan’s story). These books are a must read and they have everything you look for in the YA Fantasy genre: Romance, humour, adventure, and glamour! You’ll love them, trust me. 🙂

Haha, nice review! "DIE KIERAN DIE" sums up a few of my feelings when I read this one. I read it when it first came out, so I've been waiting for the sequel FOREVER. I do think that this could have made an excellent series ender though. The prophecy has been fulfilled. I would have been completely ok with this being the end, end had it been planned that way.
Thanks! In a very heart-breaking way, yes, this would have been a great ending. Expected yet unexpected at the same time. It could still happen though, Julie Kagawa is pure evil so she could pull it off in the next book. I'm not even sure what's going to happen to Kenzie! Someone has to die, of that I'm sure.
