*The Reader’s Review*
My rating: 5/5 stars!
The End.
One of my favorite series has finally ended for me now and I can’t stop chewing the inside of my cheek after reading this finale. Even as I’m drawing blood, that is nothing compared to how my heart is feeling right now. Every corner aches with loss, confusion and anger. I feel like a piece of me died as I closed this book. That’s it. There won’t be more.
Allegiant breaks the whole foundation of what Divergent and the majority of Insurgent stand for. There are no more factions, there’s an “outside”, different takes on humanity, and so on. It was unsettling for the characters to learn about the outside world and who could blame them? They have lived their entire lives thinking they are the only ones, and after the revelation at the end of Insurgent, everything changes drastically.
This time, Allegiant is told from Tris’ and Four’s point of view which was a nice change because we get to see more of Four (Tobias) and I liked that. However, I sometimes had a hard time remembering which point of view I was reading, their thoughts and “voices” seemed very similar to me, so I often had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to see whose turn it was. And, even after getting to know more about them, learning about their flaws and different sides I never met before, I still think they are some of the bravest, smartest and inspirational characters I had the pleasure of calling friends. And always will, even if they’re fictional.
The plot is great in my opinion, I liked most of the revelations that take place inside the Bureau and it was entertaining how everyone tried to get used to living outside the city. It was also sad to see many beloved characters fall. I wonder how Veronica felt when writing those parts … it must have been really hard. I, like most readers, am not okay with how it ends. I feel hollow inside and well, I wished for my happily ever after. I understand why though, but still. And, that epilogue didn’t work for me either.
I’m not sure if I’m ever coming back to Allegiant. I love the series but right now, I feel hurt and I just don’t want to go through all that again. In a few years, perhaps.
“One choice can destroy you.”
It sure did.
I loved Divergent, but I don't think I"m the biggest fan of the rest of the trilogy. It kind of got worse and worse, kind of like the Hunger Games trilogy. I thought that it was really hard to find out who was talking with the different POVs as well. Have you watched the Divergent movie yet? 😀
I haven't watched it yet, it barely came out here yesterday in Mexico. I'll probably go see it this week finally. 🙂 Have you seen it?
Great review! I still need to start this series – I think I will do a back to back read-a-thon when I do start these books 🙂 I really am excited to go and watch the first movie though!
