Kill or Cure is a YA romance-infused sci-fi novel. It focuses on human relationships in an undead, apocalyptic world. A girl who will stop at nothing to protect her brother.
In a dystopian world ravaged by infection, society as we know it has fallen to the mouths of the dead. The remaining fragments of civilisation survive in walled compounds, scattered in the depths of the countryside. When her little brother becomes sick with a suspected flu virus, Alyx Silverthorne will do anything to keep Tommy alive.
With limited medical supplies and only herbal alternatives, his prospects of surviving this mystery illness are bleak. But saving Tommy is just the beginning. The infected are not the only monsters that exist in this new world, and human nature can be more destructive than the dead.
In a race against time, Alyx and her best friend Will stop at nothing to protect him, even from the same people that swore to protect them all.Kill or Cure is a dynamic, multifaceted story of teenage love and gut wrenching loss in a dystopian world.
What to expect from Kill or Cure?
Kill or Cure is about a dystopic society where a virus breaks loose and chaos ensues. Alyx and Tommy, two teenagers that lost their parents to the infected (aka zombies) when they were children, were rescued by their uncle Joe and went to live in a secluded/walled compound. Years passed without incidents until Tommy suddenly starts feeling symptoms commonly known of the infected and Alyx, along with her best friend Will, try to do everything to save him while avoiding for anyone to find out. However, it was impossible to keep the secret for long and they set out into the wilderness in search of a new place to live.
First of all, let me say that I particularly loved the family bond and friendships in this story. Starting with uncle Joe, who risked everything to save his niece and nephew after their parents died, as well as Alyx’s love and fierce protection for her little brother. And there is Will who is an exceptional friend from the first page.We also get to meet some good characters such as Winter and Suzie.
The story was fast paced, action packed and even though the characters were always in peril, the high stakes is what made this book a page turner. Kill or Cure was a great read for me and if you enjoy dystopian books, you might want to check it out!
Trigger warnings: loss, a bit of gore, a sexual assault attempt.
