Aaah! I am in tears right now. I am literally in tears as I am writing this post. I just finished reading Until We Meet Again and I am so sad that it is over. It is that kind of book that left me with a bittersweet ending and even though it started with cliches and I had a couple of eye-rolls I ended up loving it and regretting my early judgment. It was amazing! Great story development!
What I Liked:
Lawrence. He is the main character’s love interest. I adore him! I should probably talk about the story before I get to him, but I wanted to put him first. Ha!
Story. What a surprising story. It starts with Cassandra, the main character of this book that goes to a summer vacation with her mother, stepfather and little brother, to a beautiful vintage house in Massachusetts’s North Shore. She lacks motivation and feels like her life has become dull. Her mother is constantly pushing her to socialize into high society which she has never belonged to until recently that her mom married a wealthy guy. Cassandra feels rebellious until one night while having a stroll on her house’s private beach, she finds a guy (it’s Lawrence!) walking on her beach. She is immediately astounded with Lawrence and his interesting manners. They later realize that they are both living in different times, but it doesn’t stop them from having a perfect relationship until they come to notice certain issues that makes their story complicated. And so this book develops into a mesmerizing story that I very much love.
Let’s go back to Lawrence. He is a beautifully written character. This book is basically dedicated to him. He is a guy who lives in 1925 in exactly the same house that Cassandra is staying for her summer vacation. Lawrence is smart, thoughtful, kind, a gentleman, a poetry writer and a simply nice guy. There has been quite some time since I hadn’t like a character this much. He is my very favorite in this book.
What Didn’t Do It For Me:
Even though I ended up loving the book, there were some things that bothered me in the story. The first, was Cassandra’s attitude and choices. I think that she was a bit too full of herself and dramatic even though the situation didn’t call for it. She later changes, so I guess I can attribute that to character growth. However I did find her a bit annoying at the beginning.
The other thing that I didn’t agree upon was the main character’s mother. I felt like she was pushing her into unnecessarily situations and people that Cassandra didn’t feel any connection with. I think she could have avoided a lot of discomfort towards Cassandra if she could have taken the time to spend some time with her and listen to her.
Final Verdict:
Until We Meet Again is a beautiful story. I laughed and cried and smiled throughout the whole book. I highly recommend it to all romance, mystery, historical lovers out there.
