A truly beautiful book about the summer that changed one girl’s life, as her mum leaves home, travellers set up camp in the family’s field, her older brother goes off the rails, and she falls in love for the very first time. Opening with a funeral, Iris is mourning the boy in the casket – but who is it? Sam, her tearaway brother, or Trick, her tentative boyfriend? Over one long hot summer, we find out just how their three lives were turned upside-down.
The main character in this book is a girl named Iris. I really liked her, and despite her family situation, she is a character that does her best to maintain a lively personality as much as possible. There is a part in this book that I specially liked where she spends time with her brother and formulates a plan to make him finish a drawing on a wall. She knows that her brother Sam is having a very hard time with the break up of their parents and that he is slowly losing himself, so she tries to bring him back on track by encouraging to express himself in something that he loves. I thought that part of the book was specially sweet and endearing, further cementing my respect for the main character.
Another aspect of the book that I liked was the cute romance between Iris and her friend Trick. I thought that it was very sweet the way they met and how it was Iris that kept looking for ways to make their meeting happen. They both developed innocent and sincere feelings toward each other and I cherished the time they spent together.
There were some parts in the story that I felt were slow, however I think that it added pretty well at the end so it didn’t really affect my reading experience by much.
Inifinite Sky had me teary right at the end. It’s a stunning, surprising read that’s well worth your time!
I'm glad you liked this book!!! It sounds interesting, great review!
My comment is a million years late, however: Thank you! Such a fun read 🙂
