Tips and Tricks to Deal With a Book Hangover
Do you ever have those days where you want to read a book but you just can’t get in the mood? Or maybe you finished a book that was so good you just can’t pick one up because there is no way it could compare to what you just read. Maybe the last book you read was so awful it put you in a reading funk. Sounds like you might be in a book hangover. Here are some ways to get you back in the mood to keep on reading.

1. The first thing that I like to do when I am in a book hangover is to watch some of my favorite booktubers, especially any videos that include a book haul or book review. Hearing other people talk about a new book and get excited gets me in the mood to read again.
2.  Going to the library and browsing books and reading the back covers almost ALWAYS helps me find a book that sounds so good I just have to get it out and read it immediately. This also works well for Bookstores. Go to Barnes & Noble, enjoy a coffee and walk around.
3.  Change it up. Maybe you have been reading too much of one genre. Pick up something different to read. It might be that things are just getting too repetitive in your reading and it might be putting you in a slump. If you have been reading too much contemporary switch to some fantasy, or vice versa. Maybe your eyes are just tired, why not try an audio book?
4.  Go outside and get some fresh air. Go for a walk. This is the perfect time to listen to an audio book as well. I also like to listen to bookish podcasts when I go for a walk. This always gets me back in the mood to pick up a book and start reading again.
5.  Make reading fun! Join a readathon that has some reading challenges. They are always fun and make you read outside of your comfort zone. Join a reading sprint on Twitter. They are also a lot of fun. You can read along with others and challenge yourself to read a certain amount of pages in a certain time.
6.  Chores. This sounds crazy, but I swear it works. You will be so sick of cleaning, you will be happy to finally pick a book back up. It can also be a reward for a job well done.
7.  If you love to write, start writing. Writing always gets me back into the mood to read a good book. It helps me come up with more ideas for whatever I am writing, and in return also makes my writing better.
8. Rest and relaxation. Some of us work so hard and then when we finally sit down with a book we just don’t feel like putting the concentration into it. Or maybe you have been reading for so many hours that your brain is just getting tired. Get some sleep. You will feel better in no time and you will be nice and ready for some reading.
9. Maybe time or distractions is a big factor for you. If you don’t have any time because you are working too much, maybe you can use your lunch break to get some reading done. Or go to bed an hour earlier and relax in bed with that book you have been meaning to read. Distractions- our homes can be noisy.  Set up a nice quiet spot that is all yours. Make it comfy. Grab a drink and a snack and just escape.
10.  Sometimes the only thing you can do is just take a break. Do something else you love.  Watch a movie or show that you enjoy.  Binge watch a Netflix series you have been meaning to watch. When I do this it satisfies me for a little while. I can only watch so much television. This almost always works for me. Sometimes a show will even remind me of a book I have been meaning to read. I’ll shut the television off and pick up a book instead.
I am pretty good at getting myself out of a book slump. If there is any other problems you are having that are keeping you from reading and you want any other suggestions, I am more than happy to help. Just leave me a comment below. Also, if you have a tip for getting out of a book slump, I would love to hear that too!
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I hope one of my tips were able to help you out. 🙂

……..

These are some great tips, Michelle! I will definitely try to follow a few of them myself because I do tend to fall into book hangovers from time to time. What I usually do is listen to really happy music. Like summer vibes. And of course, binge on Netflix!

Guys, do visit Michelle on her blog. As you can see, she rocks and knows her stuff. 🙂
