Book Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Annika Truman knows about the power of positive thinking. With a little brother who has cancer, it’s all she ever hears about. And in order to help Jeremy, she will go to the ends of the earth (or at least as far as Hollywood) to help him believe he can survive his upcoming surgery. But Annika’s plan to convince Jeremy that a magic genie will grant him any wish throws her a curveball when he unexpectedly wishes that his television idol would visit him. Annika suddenly finds herself in the desperate predicament of getting access to a hunky star actor and convincing him to come home with her. Piece of cake, right?
Janette Rallison’s proven talent for laugh-out-loud humor, teen romance, and deep-hearted storytelling shines in a novel that will have readers laughing and crying at the same time.
*The Chef’s Review*
My rating: 4/5 stars
I read a couple of Valentines day themed books so I could hopefully write about it in this day and though I liked all of my reads, I felt like reviewing this one in particular. This book is so sweet. It trully is. I loved it.
I randomly picked it up out of the library bookshelf for a quick valentines day read and after reading the description I knew it wouldn’t be a romantic kind of book, but I started reading it nevertheless. However, I am happy to say that I do not regret it one bit because isn’t valentine’s day really about true love? This is what I got most from this book, the love you feel for your family, specifically in Annika’s story, for his little brother.
Annika’s brother has cancer and she goes through any means to make him believe that he can get cured. At first, I must admit that it sounded silly to me all the stuff she did to accomplish her goal (some might have been a little to much), but one must admire her determination into making things happen in such delicate circumstances. She was unconditional to her little brother Jeremy and cheered him on. I thought that was really cool of her.
Annika’s best friend was amazing, supportive and exactly the kind of friend she needed. Jeremy’s idol, who happens to play Robin Hood, was sweet and totally awesome and not at all what you would expect from a Hollywood star. Jeremy… Jeremy was by far my favorite character, I just cannot describe him and if I point out my favorite quote from him I’m afraid that I would give out a huge spoiler, but if you happen to read the book you would completely understand.
Yes, the book was a little over the top in some aspects, but the ENDING. It broke my heart and moved me to tears. It was funny and light in most of its pages but it was a “deep-hearted” story as the summary above says so. For that, I choose this book for my favorite valentine’s read. Very recommended if you like funny, silly, teenage YA romance and a heartfelt/mind opening read. ♥
Have a happy Valentine’s day from The Reader and the Chef!

I'm not much into silly romance but if it can make me feel it's something to consider. Nice review!
