Book Review: To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

Everybody has its own ways on how to overcome crushes and try to forget those which sometimes is so difficult to accomplish. Lara Jean, the main character, has mastered the art of doing exactly that, although, I believe that most of those crushes has some way on sneaking back on. That is exactly what happened to Lara Jean after the love letters in which she used to say goodbye to her crushes got mysteriously sent to each of them without her meaning to. It was hilarious the way she managed the situation, but I have to give it to her that she did it a lot better than I would have done. I felt her embarrassment like if it were me that was going through that situation, the author did a great job describing it.

Kitty, Lara Jean’s little sister, was an amazing secondary character. She was so funny with her witty answers and you can count on her on saying that uncomfortable truth that everyone is thinking, but no one dares to say. There is also Lara Jean’s older sister, Margot, who is her mother figure since unfortunately they lost their mother at a young age. There is also their very cool father who is, like most fathers, clueless to the drama of those teenage years. Let’s not forget the crushes, which is what this truly book is about. Some of them, Lara Jean still had contact, but there were some others that she did not. It was interesting on how everything developed and the reactions of each guy. I think that it is something that some of us wonder if we were to be more opened in revealing our feelings to someone else. It’s so scary specially because that automatically makes you the more vulnerable person, but thrilling at the same time because it is only then that you will stop wondering and start getting a real answer.

This book is astounding. I truly recommend it and if you are on to this kind of YA books, I can say that you will not have regrets. Happy reading 😉
