Anya and the Shy Guy was the sweet and cute read I was looking for to just have fun. It was a very quick read and I liked that it was not heavy on the drama. I actually think it’s my favorite Backstage Pass novel up until now, though the other books have been great as well (not counting book three, still haven’t read it!).
This book, like the rest of this wonderfully cute series, can be read as a standalone without fearing that you are missing out on the storylines. This time we get the chance to meet Will Fray, the shy guy of the worldwide boy-band phenomenon, Seconds to Juliet. Only that, it’s not actually THE Will we get to meet, but his equally gorgeous and identical twin, Matt Fray. But no one knows that, least of all Anya Anderson, who was given a backstage pass to follow Matt around and dig up his juicy secrets for a magazine.
The reason why this book became my favorite is because I immediately clicked with the characters. Anya was a really great girl. She’s strong, hard-working, brave and selfless. Her struggles touched me and I simply loved her reasons for doing the magazine gig. Matt, on the other hand, impressed me with how far he went through to help his brother out. I mean, taking over his brother’s place in a famous band? That’s a tough thing to pull off. But he did. It wasn’t a flawless performance, he did struggle and made a lot of slip-ups, but overall, a good job as he fooled everyone. And he’s so not a jerk. He’s very swoon-worthy in fact.
While the whole parent trap thing going on was a lot of fun to read about, I loved even more the relationship that grows between Matt and Anya. It was so sweet and at times they even made me giggle like a 12-year-old. Oh, the swoons between them. So good!
The ending was a tad too cheesy for my taste, but it wasn’t at all that bad. The prologue was a nice addition to the story and I like how it left me satisfied with the characters’ fate. So overall, Anya and the Shy Guy is a great sweet read to brighten your day!
