Summary:

The future world is at peace.

Ella Shepherd has dedicated her life to using her unique gift—the ability to enter people’s dreams and memories using technology developed by her mother—to help others relive their happy memories.

But not all is at it seems.

Ella starts seeing impossible things—images of her dead father, warnings of who she cannot trust. Her government recruits her to spy on a rebel group, using her ability to experience—and influence—the memories of traitors. But the leader of the rebels claims they used to be in love—even though Ella’s never met him before in her life. Which can only mean one thing…

Someone’s altered her memory.

Ella’s gift is enough to overthrow a corrupt government or crush a growing rebel group. She is the key to stopping a war she didn’t even know was happening. But if someone else has been inside Ella’s head, she cannot trust her own memories, thoughts, or feelings.

My rating: 5/5 stars

HOLY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES IN A JAR!! THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!! It’s the type of read you cannot put down until you read the last page. This was my first Beth Revis book and holy cow, was I surprised on how good it was. The Body Electric totally blew my mind away with its MANY plot twists, never-ending action and interesting futuristic world.
I’m not much of a sci-fi fan, but I’m really glad I tried this book out. It’s a different type of read, but now that I think about it, a bit similar to dystopians/utopians. The city in which this book is set is perfect, one that rose after a terrible war that destroyed much of the world as we know it today. Advanced technology and groundbreaking inventions are part of the society’s daily life and since they are trying to keep peace, they monitor every citizen with a cuff that, connected to nanobots in their systems, works like a computer. It’s quite cool on the surface, but like any other system, it holds many secrets and Ella is the key to uncover them all.
Ella Shepherd is a great character and one I liked immediately. She’s not one to question much about her government since she’s worried more about her dying mother than anything else, but after Jack comes back into her life (though she doesn’t remember a thing about him) she starts realizing that her entire life feels … wrong. But the most amazing kind of wrong, you’ll see. It’s fantastic how she recovers from several surprises that hit hard along the way and even though most are nerve-racking, she manages to kick-butt and rise stronger than ever.
Her relationship with Jack was a nice addition to the story and one I wished to have had more time to get to know. The Body Electric doesn’t delve too much in romance, but it’s there and still sweet to read about. Jack is a strong fighter and a loyal friend, and he managed to surprise me as well with his part in the story.
But the real deal about this book is how it catches you off guard and throws plot twist after plot twist. My mouth was hanging open the entire time and many “No ways!” came out of it. I never saw them coming and I along with Ella, felt the confusion, anger and disappointment that were brought with them. They were tough pills to swallow, but then again, they thrilled me to no end because they change everything.
So really, awesome doesn’t even begin to describe how fantastic The Body Electric is. It’s an exhilarating read that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time and proves how good you are at guessing where the story is heading (I suck, btw). The characters, the storyline, the setting, and everything else put together make one hell of a combo and I won’t ever tire of recommending it. Definitely a top shelf read!

  1. Haha awesome review! I love how great this sounds and I LOVE that it's not all about the romance. So many great plots get buried under a romance story I find. And the twists in this sound so awesome and exciting!

    • Yup! I'm all about the romance but sometimes it annoys me how it suddenly becomes the book's main focus. This book just shows the right amount. 😉

    • I haven't read the Across the Universe series yet but I've also read that it's pretty kick-ass. I think The Body Electric is somehow related to them, but I didn't feel lost or anything. It would have been cool to have found the similarities tho.
