My rating: 4/5 stars
One Wish Away is a real dream come true! Imagine a wish-granting machine that can turn any wish into reality? That’s super awesome, but terribly dangerous as well. Like always, people’s ambition is the thing that ruins these kinds of inventions (if they ever exist) and that’s what happens inside this story.
Lyra is the daughter of the smartest scientist in SEAD. Taking after his father, Lyra notices when a star goes missing and sets out to uncover the secrets that her father, her aunt, and the government is keeping from her and the whole world. After learning about the StarCatcher, although impossible to believe at first, Lyra accepts the big possibility of changing the world for good. However, she comes to learn that not every wish should come true and if she has to risk her life for the world to have a say on their true wishes, then so be it.
This book is a thrill of a ride! While I think that the first half of the book was cool, I must say that the second half takes this story to a whole different level. It was action-packed and sweet, sweet, sweet! I loved, I suffered, and I even swooned. There’s almost no chance to take a breath and I just love that in a book. Plus, it shows the amount of research and dedication the author puts towards her book, it must have taken a lot and just by thinking about it makes me a little bit dizzy. Heck, I had to do my own research to visualize this book better. Not that you need it because this book is not confusing, but since I know next to nothing about stars, I was curious, specially about el Sombrero:

Pretty, isn’t it? |
The characters are nice too. At first I had a bit of trouble connecting with Lyra because we didn’t seem to be on the same page, but later on we finally warmed up to each other and I ended up liking her a lot. Darren, on the other hand, won me over from page one. What can I say? He’s a charmer and too darn cute! Oh, but one character who I terribly disliked was Lyra’s father. Sorry, I couldn’t help it.
I suppose One Wish Away is going to have a sequel because IT MUST HAVE ONE. Things can’t stay the way things ended. Nope. But it was a good ending, an exciting one. Too many loose ends and my curiosity is piqued. Can’t wait to join once again Lyra and Darren, and see what dreams or wishes come true.
Oh, and to answer the author’s question in her acknowledgements: “Is the true victory in achieving your dream… or the journey to get there?“I believe true victory is when you can look back and proudly say “I did that to get here“.
What do you think? 🙂
Thank you so much for taking the time to review my work! (And you read the acknowledgments! I will admit, I didn't start doing that until I became a writer…haha)
Thanks so much!
I always do just to make the book last longer 😉
I love the cover on this and am totally looking forward to reading it.
