The Week’s Entrée #11

Posted April 14, 2014 by Melissa in Uncategorized / 1 Comment

Happy start of the week everybody! You know, I’m starting to actually like all Mondays because that means I get to make another post of The Week’s Entrée. I love writing about books and realted things. It’s so much fun!

Yesterday I finally had the chance to see Divergent at the movie theater with my sister. We had a blast watching it together and we can safely say that we were the only true fans of the Divergent series there *fist pump*. Sadly, the cinema clerk gave me the wrong tickets and now I don’t have anything worthy to add to my book-to-movie tickets collection thingy. Rio 2 or The Muppets seriously don’t make the cut. I feel like punching him or…

In other more important news…

Tomorrow is my stop in the virtual book tour of These Gentle Wounds by Helene Dunbar hosted by Lady Reader’s Bookstuff. Make sure to stop by tomorrow and check out my review of the book!

Books I Bought, Won or Received:

This week I have a few books to add to my tbr pile and I’m very excited for them.

{From Netgalley}
Between the Lives by Jessica Shirvington
Expected publication: August 7th, 2014/ Orchard books (Hachette Children’s Books)
Genre: YA Paranormal

The perfect life or the perfect love. You choose.

For as long as she can remember, Sabine has lived two lives. Every 24 hours she shifts to her ‘other’ life – a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she’s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she’s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

With this new knowledge, Sabine begins a series of increasingly risky experiments that bring her dangerously close to the life she’s always wanted. But if she can only have one life, which is the one she’ll choose?

A compelling psychological thriller about a girl who lives two parallel lives – this is Sliding Doors for the YA audience.

I found out about this book during the Young Adult Scavenger Hunt (YASH) online event and I knew I had to read this book because its premise sounds so interesting. When I saw this book up in netgalley, I knew I had to request it even though the odds of getting accepted mwere very low. Such a huge surprise when they did!

{Received For Review}

I, Walter by Mike Hartner

Published: May 10th, 2013
Genre: Historical Fiction

Walter Crofter was born into Elizabethan England. In a country and a time where favor and politics were both deadly, can an honest boy stay true to himself? Especially given his family background?

I was sent an audiobook version of this book through Audible by the author and thanks to Kate Tilton’s Book Bloggers. This will be the first time I review and listen to an audiobook, so I’m thrilled to try it out.

Expected Publication: April 21st, 2014
Genre: Historical Fiction

Lucas Alexander, the ninth Duke of Arlington, is a man who gets what he wants. So when he sees the alluring Miss Pippa Welby from across a crowded ballroom, he vows to make her his. But the bold and spirited Pippa has sworn never to marry into the haute ton. Now Lucas must win her the only way he knows how—one wicked kiss at a time.

The daughter of a wealthy tradesman, Pippa has been sneered at by the upper echelons her entire life. So when the duke arrives on her doorstep with an invitation to her own engagement ball—to him—in ten days, Pippa hatches a daring plan. She must lose the duke before the ball, or risk losing her own heart.

I love reading historical fiction, I think they are quite entertaining. Although I’m not much of a fan of sexy scenes (they make me ucomfortable) and I end up skipping those scenes, the author still kindly sent me her book after I told her this. I’m going to check it out soon and see how it goes.

To Read This Week:

I’m still readig the second book in the Trust Trilogy by Cristiane Serruya, Betrayed. So far it’s been good, I like the new twists in the story and I’m waiting for everything to explode. Boom!

After Betrayed, I think I will try Between the Lives. Or maybe Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott. Maybe. 😉

And that’s it for this edition of The Week’s Entrée. Did you get any new reading material last week? 🙂
