Book Summary:
In a changed world where the sky bleeds red, winter is hotter than hell and full of sandstorms, and summer’s even hotter with raging fires that roam the desert-like country, the Heaters manage to survive, barely.

Due to toxic air, life expectancies are so low the only way the tribe can survive is by forcing women to procreate when they turn sixteen and every three years thereafter. It is their duty as Bearers.

Fifteen-year-old Siena is a Youngling, soon to be a Bearer, when she starts hearing rumors of another tribe of all women, called the Wild Ones. They are known to kidnap Youngling girls before the Call, the ceremony in which Bearers are given a husband with whom to bear children with.

As the desert sands run out on her life’s hourglass, Siena must uncover the truth about the Wild Ones while untangling the web of lies and deceit her father has masterfully spun.

*The Reader’s Review*

My rating: 5/5 stars!
Oh my freaking pricklers, Fire Country is the most awesomely awesome, coolish book ever! It’s wickedly kick-ass and insanely fun to read. I can’t believe it took me so long to plunge into this remarkable world David Estes created, I’ve been missing out so much.
This book blew and burned my mind away! The plot, the characters, the action, PERRY. Everything so fresh, so … wild, it’s so unlike anything I’ve ever read, definitely has won a place for my top shelf and I don’t believe for a second it will ever be bumped down.
The society in Fire Country is as primitive as the age of dinosaurs, but it seems that it takes place in a very distant future from us. The sky is red, food is lacking and the air is so hot, thus the name of Fire Country. The only way for their tribe to survive is to have all the women of age, called bearers, to procreate babies with their assigned call to try to keep their numbers high, while others die young due to the Fire. This is The Law, and everyone has to abide with the rules, even though not everyone agrees to it, like Siena, daughter of the next Greynote of their tribe.
I adored Siena. She is so smart and a fighter with two left feet. Her courage is admirable and her personality is funny, getting close to wooloo (crazy!). I loved how Siena opens up to the reader and invites us into her head. It was a blast really, felt almost like touring front row through Fire country. I had a lot of fun reading her thoughts, as crazy as they were. The things she would come up with, like PERRY the prickler.
I still can’t believe she made me fall in love with that plant she named in confinement. The arguments they would have were comical and I swear anyone will fall in love with this unusual addition. I now want to own a prickler and name him Perry too and have nice sarcastic chats with him and laugh and laugh and laugh, and laugh some more. Oh Perry, you funny baggard!
And I can’t forget to mention Siena’s best friend Circ, who is the sweetest, smartest, scorchin’ and most perfect dimpled person Fire country has ever known . He broke my heart to pieces but made me soar into the star filled sky as well. My tears, my heart and everything else were for you dude!
This book is not one that bores you down for a second, trust me. If you’re looking for a great, planned out story with amazing world-building, then this one’s it. If you’re looking for fun, strong characters, then look no further. And, if you’re looking for a new plant to obsess over  with and possibly a book you want to love and feel the need to gush over and pester everybody you know within gushing distance, then I plead you to stop right here, go download this goodness and prepare to be sizzled away.
